Imperial Settlers is pretty much best Polish design in recent years and I am lucky one to have a copy signed by it’s designer Ignacy Trzewiczek (it’s says ‘Green Fields of Ireland’).
This game is simple worker placement/card drawing for 1 to 4 players. Below are few pictures of it cartoonish style graphics.
There are 4 different factions to choose from: Romans, Barbarians, Japanese and Egyptians – each of them have their own deck of cards and play very differently. There is also deck of ‘common’ cards that can be used by every faction. Gameplay is divided by phases which are quite standard for those kind of games: draw cards, goods production, actions, clean up.
We have 3 different resources: stone, wood and food which can be used to build new buildings, make a deal, exchange for victory points or to draw more cards. There are also swords used to attack other players and gold to be used as any resource. Pink workers allow players to use actions on buildings.
Game lasts for 4 rounds which can be 60 to 120 minutes depending on number of players – Imperial Settlers is very good as 2 player game as well as 4 player.
I am trying to introduce this game to Thursday Night gamers since summer but as this is only 4 player it is really hard to put it on the table while we usually have 5 or 6 people. There is new expansion avail be that introduces 5th faction (Atlanteans) but I am not sure if 5-player game will be as much enjoyable due to downtime.
My BGG rating: 9/10 after 8 plays.
