Knavecon 4 completed. Usually I do not play games on Knavecon, rather chase my kids around but this time we (Daniel is 8 yr old) managed to play few:
1. Luchador! Mexican Wrestling Dice – this is some bad game…you roll dice, compare them and roll again and compare and roll again – there is not even one decision to make, even characters you play are identical (except for art and name).
Daniel: 10/10 (!) and called it ‘epic game!’ – looks like this is kiddies game π
Me: 3/10 – super boring
2. Nuts! – and this is really epic (as for playing with kids) – we have played it on Knavecon 3 as well and this is still great game for both of us, lot’s of negative interaction between players, great fun!
Daniel: 9/10
Me: 10/10 (as a family game) – looking to buy it now!
3. Eight-Minute Empire – I wanted to try something more challenging for Daniel and decided to try this one: looks like small and fast game and rulebook is tiny. Took me about 8 minutes to go through rules and we started 3-player game with one of our friend. While I think this is pretty good game, Daniel was not that impressed (he lost) π He got all the rulesΒ very quickly and I was surprised how good he played but there was something not right for him and I think I know what was that. This game presentation is very simple: few wooden cubes, 3 tiny small wooden disks, very small board – not a kiddies game at all in this field π
Daniel: 4/10
Me: 8/10 – fast and simple worker placement/area control game, possible buy for me
4. Relic Runners – Daniel saw a box and ordered: let’s play this! Well, thanks god for ‘first time play’ (less temples on the board) set up that allowed me to skip half of manual π It’s Days of Wonder game and it is looking fantastic – great board, components and super cool relics figures. Daniel already loved this game before first turn. Game itself is quite easy to play: you move around board and try to explore Temples that gives you VP’s, when you build your pathways you can travel long distances but only on your own pathways. You can also use some special abilities using ‘toolbox’. We played only with blue temples that gives victory points, other color temples are for special abilities or end game victory points conditions.
Daniel: 7/10
Me: 7/10 – I would not buy it to play with people I play games but this could be very good family game for older kids. Looks fantastic π
5. Fauna – that was my choice as I heard good things about this game. Mechanic is simple: look on card showing animal (upper half) and guess it’s weight, length, tail length and area it lives. For each guess put a cube on board: either on a map (for area) or/and on a scale for weight/length, than reveal the card and score points if you are right or almost right π If you are wrong you will loose one cube for each wrong guess (out of 6 cubes). First to reach 120 point wins. Oh and board is 2 sided for all of you using this strange imperial units π
Daniel: 8/10
Me: 9/10 – when I see term ‘educational game’ I know it is crap – you will not find ‘educational’ anywhere on Fauna’s box. This is greatΒ game and fun game as well and it is looking very good: cards are big and board is huge. All is there to have fun and learn something. I would highly recommend this game.
6. Tsuro – we have finished our day on Knavecon with quick, 3-player game of Tsuro (me, wife, Daniel). Love this game! 3-player starts very slow as you have a lot of space on the board, you might even think for a second that you are doing great…than you wife get close to you and put this tile that sends you off the board…still, very good game π
Daniel: 5/10
Wife: 8.5/10
Me: 8/10
Thanks to all owners for games we played: Drax, Vic, Jay, Krystian
I was the person who brought Rampage to it, I meant to catch you and ask if your family wanted a game. Sorry I missed you.
Jay was telling me about this and at some stage we wanted to play but table was full…anyway, it looked very good – hope to play it one day (it’s on my amazon.co.uk shopping wishlist)
