We have great weather and to make use of it and still have some gaming fun you can try this great, throwing game invented in Finland – Molkky.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game
Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game is not great game but it can be very funny to play with right people ;). We had 4 player session few days ago which was pretty good: Rome vs. China vs. USA vs. Germany.
As per above you need huge table to fit everything. Playing time 4+ hrs but I am sure we can do it around 3 hrs after few plays. My (China) strategy to go culture and ignore military was just one big mistake, didn’t help lack of resources and wrong technologies – well, something to improve for next play. Rome and Germany went very well and it was between them to decide who will have a reward to attack China’s capital city and win the game. Rome won after final battle where lot of Culture Events cards were played. I have first expansion for this game but never played it yet and might give it a try next time.
I like this game, it’s not as heavy as it looks like and only problem I have is play time – recently I do not like to play games that are 4+ hrs.
Rycerze i Zamki (Knights and Castles)
Another game in ‘Good game in a good price’ line that I got is Rycerze i Zamki – for a price of a pint (around β¬5) we get fast filler with surprisingly good components quality (for this price) and pretty fun gameplay.
Thursday Night week 21 (Fury of Dracula)
After last week session of Fury of Dracula we have decided to play this game again (yes, it is that good). It’s semi-coop adventure, all against one masterpiece, really. There is huge luck factor involved as you need to roll dice quite often (combat, travel by train, some of events etc.) and sometimes luck in getting good cards can change a game significantly – still, it’s just super fun and I love it!
Thursday Night week 16
We started last night with 7 players (home rule) session of Infiltration – it’s quick and easy game where you need to get into facility, download as much data as you can and leave facility before alarm is raised. You search room by room and try to avoid NPC’s and other players…it’s OK but I always lose so it means it’s not that OK ;).
Due to high number of players last night we had to split after first game and my group (3 players) decided to play Nations. It was my second time playing it and this time with correct rules (worker placement on cards is not limited – somebody spotted it on Knavecon 3). I have lost again but at least this time I was not negative on victory points ;). We had Rome vs. Egypt vs. China and final score was China 49, Egipt 37 and Rome 29. Game completed in 2 hrs 15 min which I think is great for civilization game. I would say my issue was I did not use my nation ability enough (military), I should concentrate on wars, battles and buying military units…but than I don’t know where to score points??? Egypt was big on money and was able to buy a lot of good cards, China on some stage concentrated on resources and some good wonders. Still, I think it is great game and I will consider to sell Through the Ages – I rather complete Nations in 2 hrs than play TTA for 7 hrs in advanced mode (which is not even full mode).
Quote of the day was Vic telling one of the lads (I believe they played Canal Mania): “I had to do it, sorry…I had no other choice!” Vic always has other option!!! Never trust Vic!!! π
Eldritch Horror
I have never played any Cthulhu game, never read any of the books…than decided to buy Eldritch Horror π Good choice as this is another 10/10 in my collection. Some reviews claiming this game to be Arkham Horror Lite or 2.0 – no idea if this is true as I was not able to go through Arkham Horror manual (game was sitting on shelf for 3 months).
[Wishlist] Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game
Top of my wishlist at the moment, it’s coop (so what?) but it is Alien and deckbuilding π Soon to be released and hopefully available in Europe. More (not much) on BGG
Kosmiczna Misja (Space mission)
Kosmiczna misja isΒ simple kids game that I got while on holidays in Poland – it cost 19.90 PLN which is circa β¬5 (!!!). It’s a part of ‘Good game at good price’ project where all the games in that line are just 19.90 PLN. Kosmiczna misja is tile placement game aiming for kids age 6+, however we had a good time playing it at Thursday Night Gaming few weeks ago. It’s simple: build planets with as many space stations as possible.
[Kickstarter] Isle of Trains
Well, something is wrong here π Isle of Trains is part of Dice Hate Me Kickstarter campaign for Big Games for Small Pockets: Dice Hate Me’s 54-Card Rabbits
Cube Quest
I have only one dexterity game in my collection – Cube Quest. It is pretty cheap, rules are easy and you can play it in 5-10 minutes. Kids love it…well, until first 5 defeats in a row ;).
